"Troy Landry Day" Proclaimed in Ascension Parish
GONZALES, LA — Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed June 17, 2011 as “Troy Landry Day” in Ascension Parish. President Martinez made the proclamation during the Parish Council meeting on June 16. With the proclamation, Landry was also recognized as “honorary parish president” on that day.
Landry is a life-long resident of Pierre Part, Louisiana and stars in the popular reality television series “Swamp People” on the History Channel. He and other south Louisiana hunters and fishers are featured each week hunting alligators in swamps across southern Louisiana.
Landry said that while the sudden worldwide notoriety of “Swamp People” has changed his and his family’s lives, their belief in family values continues to stay deeply rooted. With his wife, Bernita, by his side, Landry announced that his son, Jacob and his wife, were expecting the birth of their child the following morning.
“Everywhere we go, people tell us all the time, ‘Troy you’re making us so proud, keep up the good work,’” Landry said. “It’s not just me, it’s my whole family. Mom and daddy raised us and we work hard. Daddy was always a commercial fisherman and a businessman. We were just brought up being nice to other people and trying to do the best of everything we could. Make do with what we had and…. God, I never would have dreamed it got us to all of this. But I really appreciate it and thank you all very, very much.”
