Thousands evacuated as winds fan flames of two massive fires
NBC NATIONAL NEWS — At least two wind swept wild fires have destroyed several structures in Colorado.
Officials are evacuating residents as the flames threaten more homes in the central part of the state.
"It's extremely hot out, its windy and that just fans the fire and from 50 feet away with the window closed I could feel the heat through my glass," said El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa.
At least two fires, both burning south of Denver, broke out Tuesday and quickly spread.
Officials say firefighting resources are already stretched, so they have but have called in help from state and federal officials to help fight the fast moving fires.
At least eight structures have burned, and officials say they are now getting calls from residents who initially chose not to evacuate.
