A van loaded with keyboards, guitars, amps and drums used by the 1980s band A Flock of Seagulls was stolen from a southern California hotel over the weekend, police said.

The group parked the van in front of a Downey, California, hotel after their Saturday night gig, according to their representative.

"Yes, it's all true," lead singer Mike Score told CNN. "The van had all our equipment -- synths, guitars, drums, electronics, clothing -- but most importantly the hard drives containing the files for my new album, which was just about ready to go."

Score placed the "quite conservative" value of $70,000 on the stolen hard drive that contained his solo album.

Score, a co-founder of the English New Wave group, is the only original member still touring.

Their biggest hit was "I Ran (So Far Away)" in 1982.
