A Baton Rouge man is making national headlines. He says his biological father is one of the most notorious serial killers ever. The Zodiac Killer who killed nearly 40 people in the 1960's and 1970's.

If you've seen the movie, you know the so-called "Zodiac Killer," a man who terrorized California and taunted authorities with symbols to decipher. He was never caught, but Baton Rouge Native Gary Stewart said he has solved a part of the mystery that no one else ever could.

"A revelation that my father could have been a criminal much less a heinous criminal. I just wasn't wired that way," Stewart said.

Stewart who was abandoned at birth claims through his search for his "real" dad, Earl Van Best Jr., he discovered his dad could be a serial killer.

"My biological mother contacts my adoptive parents and says 'I'm from San Francisco, and I believe I am your son Gary's birth mother.' That was the beginning of the journey for my search for my father," Stewart said. "It went from a beautiful warm story of the reunion with my biological mother into something dark and something I was prepared to even comprehend."

Stewart found out his DNA matched the main suspect of the Zodiac murders. So, he decided to write a book about it.

"I just kept track of everything because it became such a rich, unbelievable story," Stewart said.

Gary will never get a chance to hear the truth, though. Earl Van Best Jr. died in the 1980s.

"I still would love to ask him why did you do that?" Stewart questioned.

Gary said he didn't write this book for fame or fortune, but to tell his story and hopefully inspire others along the way.

"Whether it's an adult searching for their identity and their roots, I would like my story to be a story of hope for the world," Stewart said. "I truly believe God put me in this home to be nurtured and loved by the Stewarts, so I would be strong enough and have a solid character to be able to go through what He was going to reveal to me."

San Francisco Police are still working to find out if Stewart's biological dad was the Zodiac Killer. His book "The Most Dangerous Animal of the All" is now available in stores.
