A mother and daughter have been charged with theft after taking money found inside a lost wallet.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, Juana Maria Martinez-Chaires, 64, and her daughter Christina Hernandez-Martinez, 36, turned themselves into police after an arrest warrant was issued for them on a theft charge.

Back on Tuesday, August 20, surveillence video at an apartment complex showed a woman exiting her vehicle and her wallet falling in the parking lot.

Sometime later, video shows a red truck pulling up to the wallet and Chaires picking up, opening the wallet, handling it over to Martinez, then both entering another buidling in the complex.

Both suspects were identified and the wallet was given back to the victim, who stated that her rent money, of $600, was missing.

An arrest warrant was issued causing Chaires and Martinez to turn themselves into authorities.
