Houma — Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a member of the Krewe of Hercules Carnival Club, Dylan Joseph Yates, 20, after he assaulted a cop at a Mardi Gras party Friday night.
Eight deputies worked the party on Feb. 14, at a hotel in Houma. Police reported that during the party, multiple fights broke out with as many as twenty people involved at a time.
As police were trying to break up the fights, one of them was attacked and knocked unconscious.
Acadian Ambulance took the officer to the hospital, where he was treated for a concussion and a bruised jaw along with other minor injuries.
He was released Saturday morning, but doctors recommended he receive more treatment before returning to work.
Yates was arrested for disturbing the peace by intoxication, battery on a police officer, and resisting by violence. He currently remains in jail without bond.
Police say the Krewe of Hercules organization is cooperating with their investigation and trying to identify more suspects involved in the fights.
More arrests may follow.
