NBC NATIONAL NEWS — When the iPhone 5 goes on sale, probably around October, the wide dock connector at the bottom of current devices will be much smaller.
Instead of a 30 pin connector, the iPhone 5 will come with a 19 pin connector. The new design will make room for the earplug to move to the bottom, according to a report by Reuters.
The change could annoy some faithful iPhone and iPod fans because the new phone will not connect with the current array of accessories like speakers and power chargers without an adapter.
However, it will bring new business for accessory makers!
Meanwhile, analysts predict the iPhone 5 will be Apple's best-selling smartphone yet, and iPhone fans are sitting on their wallets and purchases until they can get the new device.
Purchase delays could cause Apple to post its lowest sales and profit growth in more than two years. There was a similar slowdown last year before Apple released the iPhone 4S.
