BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - Severe weather pelted the Capitol City as locals celebrated Mardi Gras on March 5. 

Rain affected not only Baton Rouge, but the entirety of southern Louisiana, including Acension and Assumption parishes.

The torrential downpour flooded local streets and overflowed drainage ditches as well.

Tornadoes were also reported in both Hammond and Baton Rouge, near the Shenendoah area.
