GONZALES, LA (WVLA) - A subdivision proposal has people in Gonzales saying "not in my backyard".

Ascension Parish Council voted down the Mossy Oak Planned Unit Development -but that doesn't mean the subdivision won't happen.

The plan is to build almost 140 smaller homes in a wooded area in Gonzales.

Neighbors say homes in the area are large and spread out - and the subdivision would hurt the rural- quiet characteristics of the place.

People who have lived in the area for decades say if the subdivisions are built - they wouldn't be surprised to see people leave.
