Nearly 50% of EBR Parish residents don't feel safe walking in their own neighborhoods at night.

That's according to a new study released by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation.

The study gathered information from crime statistics and hundreds of EBR residents.

It shows that while crime numbers are going down, many people are still scared.

More neighborhoods are creating crime districts--where a portion of homeowner's association fees goes to pay for private security.

"The message to our law enforcement people is they've got to figure out a strategy to go in and deal with that so people feel more secure about it," said John Spain, BR Area Foundation Executive Vice President.
