IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A HARMLESS INITIATION INTO MELLOW PHI FELLOW FRATERNITY...AN ORGANIZATION NOT RECOGNIZED BY SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY OR THE BAND .
BUT ARREST RECORDS SHOW TWO VICTIMS WERE STUCK MORE THAN 50 TIMES WITH TWO BY FOURS....
THE STUDENTS WERE IN INTENSIVE CARE FOR WEEKS...
" That was a very trenmendous incident. It should've never happened"
THE SEVEN MEN ACCUSED IN THE BEATING ...FACED UP TO FIFTY YEARS IN PRISON AND 50 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN FINES.. SHOCKINGLY ...DISTRICT ATTORNEY HILLAR MOORE SAYS THE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE ASKING THAT THE MEN BE PLACED ON PROBATION INSTEAD OF PRISON...AND HE AGREES.
"This is how they wanted the case handled in fact they gave me le way to go as far as a dismissal or a misdemeaner offense. "
50 years is to harsh of a punishment and if probation is enough to teach them a lesson then they should get probation."
"Donald Tompkins/ Southern Fan
For the parents to do that that's a godly thing thats wonderful. "
MOORE BELIEVES THE VICTIMS WHO ONCE FACED ORGAN FAILURE...HAD A CHANGE OF HEART WHEN THEY REALIZED WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THEIR FRIENDS.
"I think they may feel a little bit at fault and that they agreed to do it, things just kind of got out of hand and not neccessarily intentionally ."
RANGING FROM 20 TO 23 YEARS OLD ...MOORE SAYS WITH PROBATION...THE FIRST TIME OFFENDERS WILL HAVE AN OPPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THE MATTER TAKEN OFF THEIR RECORD. GIVING THEM A SECOND CHANCE ON LIFE.
