South Carolina DOT removes controversial anti-littering sign
Laurens, SC (WHNS) -- The City of Laurens' eye-catching but some controversial anti-littering signs have been removed by state road crews.
A spokesperson for the South Carolina Department of Transportation said they removed at least one the city's new signs that went up at the end of March.
Three different signs were posted as part of the city's 2014 Don't Trash Laurens campaign, but one design is no longer standing.
SCDOT said the sign that read, "Don't litter, Jack***, that means you!" was deemed inappropriate and taken down. The other two designs will remain up as long as the city gets them approved through DOT-permitting process, which the spokesperson said was underway.
The signs were created by residents as part of a contest the city held. The winners took home gift certificates.
