SEATTLE (CNN) — Seattle Fire Department says two of their own; Scott Bullene and Robert Howell were arrested along with a female companion Saturday night.
According to the SPD the three are accused of assaulting a sleeping homeless man in Pioneer Square.
Alvin Taniferro tells Q13 fire fighters he witnessed the attack and tried to intervene.
"He told me that he had a brother that died on duty that was a firemen and he don`t appreciate the homeless sitting on these monuments," Taniferro said.
According to police, Bullene, Howell and the woman were walking through pioneer square after the sounders game when they came across the sleeping man sleeping near the Seattle fallen firefighters memorial.
SPD says witnesses claim the woman yelled at the man and kicked him.
Then one of the off duty firefighters allegedly picked up a stick and started hitting the man.
"I'm completely disgusted to be honest when you become a fireman you take an oath to protect and save lives," neighbor L.J. Newkirk said.
Police say the victim pulled a knife during the attack stabbing Bullene
"If he did sit on the monument he's not the first one why should he be bloody for this," Taniferro said.
Investigators believe all three suspects were intoxicated during the alleged assault. A spokeswoman for The Seattle Fire Department didn't know if the firefighters would be disciplined, since they were both off- duty.
"This completely changes my view of the Seattle Fire Department. This is not what I thought we stood for at all," Newkirk said.
At last check Sunday Bullene was listed in stable condition at Harborview Medical Center.
