Some people are calling it a "national crisis." We've had more than 70 school shootings since the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting a year and a half ago.

"It doesn't have a zip code to where this would happen."

When you send your kids to school, you hope they're not in danger.

"It doesn't have a zip code to where this would happen," said Darrel Perkins, a parent. "That's not something we had to deal with, or it wasn't as prevalent as it is now."

There's been almost a school shooting a week across the country since the Sandy Hook incident in December of 2012. Perkins said that number doesn't surprise him.

"I think one of the biggest problems is these are copy-cat killings because there are a lot of kids out there who feel like that killer, and feel like that may have to go out and do the same thing," Perkins said.

LSU student gabi Scaffidi says it's scary to think a shooting could happen at her school

"Nervous actually because you can just walk into class, and no one checks your bag on anything. So, it could happen. It's not something I think about when I'm walking around campus," Scaffidi said. "I just thought it was really scary that something like that would happen on like a campus that I go to and am at every day."

LSU did have an emergency drill just a couple of weeks ago to make sure students and faculty are prepared just in case there's a shooter on campus.Scaffidi thinks every school should do the same thing.

"I wouldn't know what to do if they didn't tell me what to do or have those drills or anything like that," Scaffidi said. "Just continue like having the drills and stuff, and warning the students what to do or how to act in a situation like that."
