A former race horse abandoned by her owners is moving on to greener pastures. "Gracie" was left to fend for herself when her owners moved out of their Naples, Florida home. "She's an awesome horse. I have no idea why you'd leave a horse like that behind," said Animal Services Officer Dana Alger.
Neighbors say they noticed the horse a while ago. One even paid to fix a split hoof on the horse, and several others have been coming by to feed Gracie on a regular basis. "She would come to the fence, I would feed her apples, break up the apples, and everything. She loved it," Gene Feliciano said.
Many questions surround Gracie, but one thing Alger does know is that Gracie used to be a race horse. She has a tattoo on her upper lip, a way of identifying horses at tracks. Investigators are now trying to track down who abandoned her. In the meantime she'll see a vet and then go up for adoption. "She needs a nice new home with some pasture and a nice barn. And I'm sure there's somebody out there in the community who'd really like to have her live out the rest of her life in that type of luxury," said Amanda Townsend, Director of Collier County Animal Services.
