Officer Involved Shooting

Sheriff's Deputies in Livingston Parish are looking into a shooting last night on Autumn Run Drive just north of Walker.

It happened just before 4:00.

The Sheriff's Office says 54 year old Gerald Rice was trying to kill himself. When deputies got to the scene, Rice was in his truck - had been taking pilled - and had a gun. According to the Sheriff's office, Rice fired a shot from inside his truck. When deputies told Rice to drop the gun, he's thought to have made a move toward the deputies.

That's when a deputy fired several shots. Rice was pronounced dead at the scecne.

The name of the Deputy has not been released. He's on paid leave while the shooting is being investigated.
