BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) - Bossier City's city council will likely vote next month on a proposed ordinance that could eventually eliminate almost two-thirds of the billboards in the city.

The Bossier City-Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission voted against the ordinance on Monday after hearing complaints from people in the advertising business, according to The Times of Shreveport. But that body only makes recommendations. The ordinance can still be approved with votes by the city council and the Bossier Police Jury. The council is expected to vote as early as Nov. 3.

The ordinance would ban new billboards in Bossier City except along an interstate highway. It also includes provisions that could lead to the elimination of many existing billboards.
