Original Story: ST. MARTINVILLE, La (WVLA) -- Two inmates escaped from the recreational area of the St. Martinville Parish Jail. One inmate was seriously injured during the escape, while the other, Paul Collins, is still on the loose.

The inmates physically overpowered an officer this morning around 10:30 a.m. while they were being escorted from their cells to the rooftop recreational area. When they jumped from the roof to the ground, one was badly injured and apprehended.

A viewer called NBC33 News and reported that the inmate had been transported by airlift to Lafayette for medical treatment.

Collins, however, managed to escape. He was being held on First Degree Murder charges and he is considered very dangerous.

The 36-year-old is described as a black male, 6’3” tall, 200 lbs, clean shaved and bald. He was last seen wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. He may have removed the jumpsuit and could be wearing a white t-shirt and gray sweatpants.

NBC33 News will have more on this story as details develop.
