Natalie Portman's adaptation of "Pride, Prejudice and Zombies" isn't dead yet.

The gestating project, based on the mash-up novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, has found a new director in Burr Steers ("17 Again"; "Charlie St. Cloud"), and has a potential new lead in Lily Collins. According to Variety, the 23-year-old "Blind Side" star is currently in negotiations to join the film.

Grahame-Smith's novel is an "expanded version" of Jane Austen's classic "Pride and Prejudice" and introduced a more gruesome twist. Elizabeth Bennet isn't only maneuvering the class politics of the era with her love interest, Mr. Darcy, but she's fighting off the undead while she's at it.

Portman was initially supposed to portray the heroine, with David O. Russell circling the movie as a potential director.

But because the script took a while to find the right tone, both Portman and Russell had to walk away lest it interfere with their schedules. Now, Collins is the potential zombie-slaying replacement.
