SAINT FRANCISVILLE, La (NBC33) – Some residents in West Feliciana Parish are fed up. They say the low crossing on Morris Road is a hazard and has been for at least the last seventeen years.
Chuck Leonard and his wife live near the low crossing. They say it is so dangerous that they can’t even remember the last time they drove on it. They claim cars that have driven over the crossing have received punctured tires and other have even skidded out of control.
They say they have contacted both local and state officials to try and get the problem fixed. Chuck says the oly thing that has been done is that warning signs have been place on both sides of the crossing. West Feliciana parish manager Ambrose Sims says neither he nor the Public Works Director have ever received any complaints about the crossing.
Chuck Leonard believes that if something is not done soon to fix the crossing, it could cause a major problem during an emergency, “It is slated as a hurricane evacuation road, as well as we have two high pressure gas lines within a half a mile in either direction or here, if they had an emergency on either one of those lines, this would be our escape route.”
