PARISH BY PARISH:White visits schools; shooter caught in foot chase; helicopter crash investigated

LOUISIANA (NBC33) — EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH - State Superintendent of Schools John White spent time in area schools today. White says he wants to talk with quote the frontline workers to get their thoughts on how to improve education in the state. White spent time today at Tanglewood Elementary and North Live Oak Elementary School in Livingston Parish.
IBERIA PARISH - Deputies caught a man they say shot at two cars early yesterday morning. Deputies tell us Joshua Smith shot at cars in New Iberia shortly after midnight. We're told he was spotted in his red Mustang shortly after, and as he tried to get away, he crashed into an apartment complex. After a short foot chase, deputies say they tackled Smith. He's now in the Iberia Parish jail; no one was hurt in the shooting.
ST. MARY PARISH - No final word in federal report looking into a Janurary helicopter crash that left two people dead. The report released by the National Transportation Safety Board says there was good weather. Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter circling low and said the pilot waved at them. The full report won't be released for at least another year. No one reported seeing the crash happen, but witnesses say they heard the impact and saw smoke and flames. The crash killed 43 year-old Lanny Ledet of Gheens and 40 year-old Jason McKean of Amite. The helicopter was owned by Cenac Marine Services of Houma.
