PARISH BY PARISH: Teacher sentenced to 27 years; Sheriff hosts kids' safety event
LOUISIANA — LAFAYETTE PARISH - A former Acadiana High teacher is sentenced to 27 years in prison for allowing students to have sex in his apartment, and sometimes video taping them. Stephen Mckay Hurst' pleaded guilty to that crime back in February 2011. For five years, Hurst offered up his home to minors, and secretly recorded them having sex. We're told after admitting what he did, he tried to get his sentence reduced by lying about a plot by a major drug dealer to kill an Assistant US Attorney. Hurst sentenced to 27 years in prison.
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH - Central's City Council is expanding. In a vote last night, the council decided to go from five members to seven. Council says the expansion would help serve the community. The move comes after several meetings earlier this year.
ASSUMPTION PARISH - The Sheriff's Office will host a Kids' Safety Expo. It's set for next month in Plattenville. The expo will give parents the chance to check child safety seats, and get fingerprinted. Teens can even sit in on a driving course. Click here for more information.
