PARISH BY PARISH: Officer shoots suspect; accident blows up car; trick or treat hours set

LAFAYETTE PARISH - A man is shot dead by a Lafayette Police Officer, after the officer is backed over by the suspect's car. It happened on the Evangeline thruway Friday night. State police say Anthony Sonnier was driving a car seen at an earlier stabbing. When the officer had him stopped, he tried to escape and take out the police man at the same time. After being hit by the back of the car, the officer fired several shots into the car, killing Sonnier. Sonnier's death is being investigated by Louisiana State Police.

TANGIPAHOA PARISH - A Hammond couple is okay after an accident that sent their car up in flames. It happened Sunday on highway 190. According to reports, a deer ran into the road. The car rolled, hit a power pole, and crashed into several trees before ending up in a ditch. The two people inside were able to get out of the car. Neither the driver, or passenger, was seriously hurt.

EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH - Trick or treat hours are set for the ghosts and goblins. Hours are Monday, Halloween night, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the evening. Mayor President Kip Holden, along with Chief Dewayne White are asking everyone out on the roads to be careful, and to stay off residential streets possible. Police officers are being will concentrate heavily on local neighborhoods throughout the city to make sure everyone stays safe.
