PARISH BY PARISH: Man drowns after canoe flips; two shot in 9th Ward; parish records burned; sidewalk project announced

Louisiana (NBC33) — ASCENSION PARISH - A Texas man is dead after the canoe he was riding in accidentally turned over. Ascension Parish Sheriff's deputies say it happened late last week in at a subdivision in Prairieville. 20 year-old Joshua Fusilier from Beaumont, Texas was fishing with co-workers when the canoe flipped. Fusilier was taken to the hospital, where he died. Two others in the canoe were able to be rescued. According to reports, none of the men were wearing life vests.
ORLEANS PARISH - Police in New Orleans say a Baton Rouge man was one of the victims in a double shooting on Sunday evening in the 9th ward. Police say 21 year-old Deimani Titus was killed. There's no word on a suspect or motive in the shooting. A 23 year-old from New Orleans was also killed. Police are still investigating.
VERNON PARISH- More than 25 years of Vernon Parish records were burned Monday in a fire that destroyed the parish maintenance barn. The fire burned everything from building permits to bridge inspection paperwork. Everything was destroyed in the fire that broke out Monday morning. The parish is trying to move on with work while trying to sort through thousands of charred documents.
LIVINGSTON PARISH - More improvements for the growing city of Walker: another sidewalk expansion project is in the works. This expansion will help people get to Sidney Hutchinson Park without sharing the road with traffic. The money for the nearly $600,000 project come from the state. No word on when the project will wrap up.
