Jefferson - A 19-year-old man has severe injuries to his hands, arms and legs after he set off a homemade "sparkler bomb”. The unidentified victim was hurt just before midnight, when he lit the device. Police say the man tied about twelve dozen sparklers together using duct tape. We're told he tried to make a fuse that would let him to light the device, then step away. Investigators said the sparkler exploded in his hands.

Tangipahoa - Detectives say they've arrested another person on a string of car break-ins. We're told detectives connected Jeremy Keys, 19, to the break-ins and found out he was trying to leave town. BRPD caught up with Keys at the Greyhound bus station near downtown and they say he had marijuana on him. Keys is facing 74 counts of burglary, and there could be additional arrests. Earlier this week, deputies arrested Benjamin White in conjunction with the thefts.

East Baton Rouge - The man in charge is the state's school testing and accountability is leaving the state Department of Education. Scott Norton is leaving for Washington D.C. That's where he'll be working for the Council of Chief State School Officers as Strategic Initiative Director for Standards, Assessments, and Accountability. Before accepting that position, Norton has worked with the state’s DOE for almost 20 years. His last day is set for July 13.
