PARISH BY PARISH: Hair salon destroyed; two arrested for making crack; shoplifter wanted; Benny's allowed to open

LOUISIANA (NBC33) — ORLEANS PARISH - A popular hair salon is destroyed in New Orleans. Firefighters got the call just after 9:30 p.m. last night. When they got to the scene, the two-story building was up in flames. The beauty salon was on the first floor and apartments were on the second. The building has fire, smoke, and water damage. The roof also collapsed while firefighters were battling the blaze. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
ST. MARTIN PARISH - Two St. Martin Parish men are in jail for making crack. Deputies say it all happened on Mary Street in St. Martinville right next to a school. Detectives say they arrested Francis Jacobs and Gabriel Simon on a variety of charges, including making meth within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
ASCENSION PARISH - Police in Gonzales need your helping finding a suspected shoplifter. We're told the man you see hear tried to steal large televisions from different stores in the city. He's thought to have gotten away in a late 90's model Honda Accord. Call CrimeStoppers if you can help investigators.
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH - A popular Baton Rouge carwash back open tonight. That after being shut down during a DEQ investigation. Benny's on Essen Lane came under fire after red dye got into Ward's Creek. The DEQ says it happened through a discharge pipe that was only supposed to have rainwater. Yesterday, while investigating the red creek, the DEQ shut operations at Benny's down. Today, a part-owner says the products are environmentally safe, and he's glad to be back open.
