BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) —
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH - Another person shot and killed in Baton Rouge. The latest shooting happened at N. Acadian and Choctaw around 5:30 last night. Police say 21 year old Kevin Johnson was at a red light. That's when someone walked up to the car and started shooting. Johnson died at the hospital. Police don't have a suspect or a reason for the shooting.
TANGIPAHOA PARISH - The president of the Tangipahoa Parish School Board and his wife out on bond today after a grand jury indicted the pair in a medical fraud scheme. According to the Attorney general's office - Erica and Cassandra Dangerfield used their company 1st Thessalonians Community program in Hammond to siphon money from the Louisiana Medicaid program. The couple faces several felony charges including conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering. The couple turned themselves yesterday morning. They're free on 83 thousand dollars bail tonight.
CALCASIEU PARISH - The new owners of the Crown Casino riverboat in Lake Charles say they plan to put the vessel up for sale. The crown was towed to the Leevac shipyard in Lake Charles, where it can be stored until it is sold again. Bossier Casino venture closed a deal last week to buy the gambling boat for 15 million dollars to get the license the company needs for the Margaritaville Casino resort in Bossier City. That new casino riverboat is slated to open in June 2013. Isle of Capri continues to operate the Grand Palais riverboat casino in Lake Charles.
