LOUISIANA (NBC33) — ORLEANS PARISH - Two children are dead after being hit by bullets in two separate shootings on Sunday in New Orleans. Police say a girl that would have turned two years old on Thursday was hit in the head when the 19 year-old shooting victim ran into a courtyard full of kids. A 9 year-old boy was hit in the back during a shootout in another part of the city. Now, there are new concerns about crime in New Orleans. Some state reps are even calling for the National Guard to once again patrol the streets, just like they did after Hurricane Katrina. The city's police superintendent, Ronal Serpas, says the violence is up because judges are letting criminals back out on the streets after little time in jail.
LAFAYETTE PARISH - A 63 year-old is locked up and accused of indecent behavior with a juvenile. Police in Scott say Ronald Cormier may have touched a child inappropriately back in November. After a month long investigation, Scott police say they got an arrest warrant to put Cormier behind bars.
WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH – DOTD said they'll soon start work on a project at a controversial intersection in Addis. Wrecks at LA-1 and the sugar plantation in Addis have claimed two lives in just the past few months - the last one just this past weekend. DOTD said they're planning to build a right turn-only lane. That will prevent people leaving to simply cross into the path of cars on LA-1. No word when the project will be complete.
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH - Gas prices are on the way down across the Capitol City and the state! According to AAA, the price for a gallon of gas is just over $3 a gallon. Lots of retailers here in Baton Rouge are already under that three dollar mark. While the decline is good, it could be better - AAA a says the average price at this time last year was $2.85 a gallon.
Parish By Parish airs every weekday at 6:30 on NBC33.
