More than 300 parents of students at Tara High School learned today that their child is truant.

The parish district attorney's office along with the EBR School System held three early warning meetings for parents Wednesday morning.

Parents who came to the meeting had students with at least five unexcused absences during the fall semester.

They met one-on-one with counselors and signed a statement saying they understood the state truancy law.

Organizers say it turns out many of the students were responsible for their own absences.
