A ban on oyster harvesting is in effect St. Bernard Parish.

State health officials issued the closure after word of a possible norovirus outbreak in New Orleans. Several people became ill over the weekend after eating raw oysters.

The Department of Health and Hospitals is investigating.

This is the second area in the past week to have a hold on oyster harvesting. A norovirus outbreak at a Mississippi seafood conference was linked to mollusks from Plaquemines Parish.
