Obama Travelling to Asia

After remembering America's veterans, President Obama greets troops in Alaska today before heading to Japan and China. Japan wants to pull out of supporting the U.S. in Afghanistan as Mr. Obama decides whether to send more troops there.

Former Secretary of Defense William Cohen said, "What's important is that he make a decision and make it reasonably soon." America's top commander wants 40-thousand more troops, but our top Afghan diplomat questions that.

The President reportedly rejected all options at yesterday's war council, instead pushing for the Afghan Government to take more responsibility. Rick Nelson of the Center for Strategic and International Studies said, "Go back to focusing on Al Qaeda, back to pushing back Taliban to the extent we can stabilize Karzai's Government."

This morning, the President talks about the economy before traveling to China, which holds a trillion dollars in U.S. debt. Kenneth Lieberthal, a China Analyst from the Brookings Institution said, "They are very heavily invested in the U.S. economy itself and in the U.S. dollar in particular. So if we mismanage our economy and the dollar falls precipitously, that's going to cost China a great deal of wealth."

Clean energy and preventing a North Korea nuclear threat are likely areas of cooperation.
