Obama to Attend Jobs Summit

With 15 million Americans out of work, President Obama couldn't talk war this week and ignore it. "The American people are understandably focused on rebuilding our economy and putting people to work here at home," said Obama.

Today's jobs summit gathers economists, union and business leaders from companies big and small. From Google to Air Tractor, many U.S. firms have trimmed payroll to stay afloat. Mark Gaswirth of dcjobs.com said, "Employers still need to see, need that security to know that things are continuing to get better before they continue to add employees."

Aides say President Obama will be listening today. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said, “What I think the President wants to do is hear from them on the type of environment that we can have that would allow for that hiring to take place."

Critics charge holding the forum is an admission. Indiana Representative Mike Pence said, "A tacit admission that the economic policies of this administration and this Congress have failed." In Iowa, members of the state's largest union agreed to pay cuts to keep jobs. A sacrifice. Some Americans are trying fine dining. Serving it, as butlers-in-training. "I don't quite have enough time left to start over with a four-year college career," said one worker. Where jobs are scarce, some are finding the high life…or at least a view of it.
