Some kids in Saint Helena Parish had the day off of school Monday. Fire marshals were on hand trying to figure out the District's fire alarm problem. The alarms at Central Elementary and Central Middle School haven't been working for 2 weeks. The Superintendent made the call the keep the kids at home while the District came up with a short term plan in case a fire breaks out. A teacher will check the building every hour for smoke or other signs of a fire. Superintendent Daisy Slan says no alarms is a big concern in her school district. She says the tab for the alarms could push $5000 for the elementary school. It could be weeks before the alarms are up and running at the schools.
