New Sorrento Election

THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: Sorrento Mayor Brenda Melancon officially resigned Tuesday, April 19. According to a representative from the mayor's office, the mayor submitted her letter of resignation this morning.

Mayor Pro Tem Randy Anny will act as mayor until an interim mayor is found. The city has ten days from the time the Secretary of State receives her letter of resignation to appoint an interim mayor. A restricted election between Anny and Wilson Longanecker Jr. is scheduled for May 21.

SORRENTO, La (NBC 33) – Ascension Parish Judge Alvin Turner, Jr. has decided today to hold a restricted election for eight people.

It comes after the eight were given incorrect polling information during the mayoral election on April 2nd. In that election, Wilson Longanecker, jr. defeatd Randy Anny by eight votes.

The restricted election will be held on May 21.
