BATON ROUGE, La (NBC 33)- There are now 42 new officers patrolling the streets in and around Baton Rouge.

Thirty-four men and eight woman graduated from the Capital Area Regional Training Academy today. The three month training program has the officers ready to hit the streets and make a difference, “It’s a job and somebody has to do it and I’m proud to be one of them.” says Selvi Rose.

Selvi Rose is one of the new officers. The mother of a seven month old admits it was a lot of hard work and she had to go through many bumps and bruises to accomplish this goal, “getting sprayed, getting maced. That was quite an experience and I hope I’m never sprayed again.”

Selvi and her fellow graduates have a tough job ahead of them. The murder rate in the Baton Rouge area is double last year’s.
