NE Police: Stick shift prevents suspect from carjacking
Omaha, NE (KETV) — A teenager is in jail after police in nebraska say a stick shift ruined the suspect's carjacking plan.
At a crime scene in a quiet dundee neighborhood, police say this is what a carjacking looks like when the criminal can't drive a stick shift. With the wheels in the grass backed up a hill, the suspect didn't get far.
Theo peters dialed 911 when he heard his wife screaming. She was outside, ready to take their 13-year-old to school. That's when police say a young man walked up her driveway holding a handgun.
Peters says he watched the young man climb into their dodge caliber and try to start the car.
Plenty of time for omaha police officers to surround him.
When officers caught the suspect, peters told them he and his wife had seen that man before standing outside staring at his house wednesday morning.
And he's not getting rid of the caliber. Even police say a manual transmission can have its perks.
