BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - As the number of victim's in Japan rise - so does the need for help.
The American Red Cross, and several other organization are on the ground and accepting donations.
But the Better Business Bureau of Baton Rouge says the number of scams are on the rise.
Jim Stalls is the BBB's President and CEO. He says since the tragedy is so new, only 27 reports of scams have been reported. But he says that number will go up.
"It'll be in the hundreds by the end of this week", he says.
The BBB recommends you ask questions about the organization before you even donate a penny.
Ask for information about the organization, find out where you're money will go, and how much of it will be used in the relief effort.
As with any tragedy, Stalls says the number of scams skyrocket.
"It's like rats coming out of the wall." , he says.
The Better Business Bureau has a page with organization they've already checked out. You can get that information here.
