A Houston, Texas woman credits her purse with saving her life when she was attacked and shot several times by two masked men as she walked outside her home.

"I heard running, someone running. When I looked up, he was pointing a gun at me. I was looking down the barrel of a gun," said Dollie O'Day.

The shooting happened Sunday at 2:15 a.m. as O'Day returned to the Memorial Ashford Townhomes.

According to O'Day, the thieves immediately began attacking her and demanding she hand over her purse.

"He had knocked me to the ground and was dragging me around," said O'Day. "I was just yelling, 'Help me, help.'"

One of the robbers then opened fire, letting off four rounds.

"He got me two places in the leg," O'Day said.

One of the bullets could have hit her directly in the chest, but, the 61-year-old grandmother said her purse acted as a shield.

"I think hanging onto the purse saved my life. I had it over my chest," said O'Day. "I think there was a guardian angel watching out for me."

The suspects got away with an iPhone before jumping into a waiting getaway car, according to witnesses.

Investigators hope a GPS tracker on the iPhone may lead to the suspects.
