NBC NATIONAL NEWS — The FBI says scammers are looking online for victims through social media and online dating sites trying to get money.

Here are tips to recognize a "sweetheart" scammer:

- Your "date" wants you to only talk through personal e-mail not a dating website.
- Instantly admits to feelings for you.
- Sends you a photo that looks like a cut out from a magazine.
- Claims to be from the U.S., but is traveling abroad.

The most common target is women over 40 who are divorced, widowed or disabled, but agents say it can happen to anyone.
