NBC NEWS — The Virginia Tech police officer killed in the line of duty was laid to rest today.
Family, friends, and law enforcement officials honoring their fallen brother, attended the service on the Virginia Tech campus at Cassell Coliseum.
Officer Deriek Crouse was making a traffic stop Thursday when police say a 22 year-old student from a nearby college walked up to his cruiser and shot him.
That student was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell spoke at the service today.
"He was quiet. He was absolutely professional. He was incredibly well-trained. He was an instructor for others. He relished the dangerous missions,” stated McDonnell. “And yes, I understand, he was a little bit of a prankster, loving to try to get the best of his fellow SWAT team officer only to break the tension of the intense and incredibly difficult work that police officers are called to do." Officer Crouse leaves behind a wife and five children.
