The U.S. military along with their South Korean counterparts are closely following the developments in North Korea after the country's failed rocket launch. U.S. intelligence gathering aircraft were seen returning to their home base in southern Japan this afternoon after the launch. Local media reported several U.S. spy planes took off from the base before the launch took place.

Meanwhile in South Korea, the military was put on alert immediately after the launch. The top U.S. commander in the region, along with the U.S. ambassador to South Korea met with government officials to assess the situation. The United States has more than 20,000 troops stationed along the border of North and South Korea. A military official briefing the media said the launch caused no damage in South Korea.
