U.S. aircraft carrier enters the Strait of Hormuz
NBC News — The U.S. aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln sailed through the Strait of Hormuz tuesday. NBC's Jim Miklaszewski is traveling on the ship and he reports that while the carrier was traveling through the strait seven Iranian fastboats approached it.
Six of the boats passed close to the Abraham Lincoln and two other warships it was traveling with, cutting in front of the group. As the seventh one approached, a U.S. military helicopter fired several flares down into the water, forcing it to turn away. Iranian officials have threatened to close the channel through which 20% of global oil exports pass.
