The United Nations says the famine in Somalia is over, although conditions remain fragile and could worsen. The food and agriculture organization's director general said the latest harvest in Somalia was double the average of the past 17 years.

But he warned there was less than 100 days to work to avoid another famine. The UN initially said 750,000 Somalis faced imminent starvation but lowered the number to 250,000 six months after famine was declared. The U.N. says more than 2.3 million people in Somalia are still in need of aid.
