NBC News — U.N. special envoy Kofi Annan is expected to sit down with Syria's embattled President Bashar Al-Assad tuesday. Annnan arrived in Syria monday just days after friday's confirmed massacre of more than 100 civilians. On sunday the U.N. Security Council condemned the attack and yesterday Annan said that he was shocked and horrified by the killings.
The Syrian government says it has launched an investigation into the incident. The U.N. says more than 9000 people have been killed in the 15 month old crisis. Activist groups say that figure is actually much higher.
