NBC News — A court in Cancun, Mexico monday heard the testimony of a key witness in the trial of American Bruce Beresford-Redman, who is accused of killing his wife. The former TV producer allegedly killed his wife, restaurant owner Monica Burgos, while the couple vacationed with their two children at a Cancun resort in April of 2010.

Burgos' body was found in a sewer pipe near the resort and prosecutors say she appeared to have been strangled. The lawyer for the defense said monday the court heard from a criminal expert who said there was no apparent link between the defendant and the murder. If he is convicted, Beresford-Redman faces 40 years to life in prison.
