NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Budget pressures are leading to a halt in tuition assistance for soldiers and marines.
The Army announced today the suspension of its tuition assistance program at day's end.
The approximately 200,000 soldiers taking courses through the program will be able to complete their current classes, but beginning tomorrow, no aid applications for future coursework will be accepted.
The Army's announcement follows a similar decision earlier this week by the Marine Corps.
Representatives say budget challenges due to general reductions and the sequester standoff led to the decision.
