Strikes continue in Greece
NBC News — Greeks faced a new wave of strikes monday as transportation workers walked off the job in protest of austerity measures put in place by the government. Subway, tram and city trains all came to a stop causing more headaches for commuters who had endured a similar strike last week. Vehicles were gridlocked on the highways and at intersections across Athens.
The week is expected to be riddled with strikes and protests after the recent austerity measures announced by the government, including further wage cuts and layoffs. Greece is at the center of the European debt crisis and is trying to secure its latest payment from international lenders including the International Monetary Fund next month to avoid a default.
