NBC News — Thai customs officers have seized more than 1100 pounds of ivory at Bangkok's international airport. The elephant tusks were hidden in crates aboard a flight from Kenya. It's the second time this year that customs have stopped an attempt to smuggle in ivory.
In all there were 158 pieces. Officials say all flights from Kenya are closely watched but this find came through a tip-off. The international trade in ivory was banned by an international convention in 1989.
