Seven dead after shooting at Christian university in California

Seven people are dead after a shooting at a Christian university in Oakland, California.

The first calls to 911 came in around 10:30 A.M. local time reporting a gunman on the loose after he opened fire on an adult classroom.

Several people are confirmed dead with at least three other victims rushed to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The shooting happened at Oikos University, a Korean religious school for adults. Witnesses describe a frantic scene.

Police searched for the gunman throughout the school and surrounding office complex for nearly two hours. Several buildings including the neighboring Oakland tribune were put on lockdown.

The suspect, believed to be an Asian male, was taken into custody just after noon at a nearby shopping center.

The community, now relieved a suspect is custody but forced to grieve this tragic loss of life.
