NBC NATIONAL NEWS — A Wichita Falls, Texas yard sale took an unusual turn Saturday afternoon after family members came across a strange looking device.
"We thought it was an oxygen tank. So he picked it up and we saw the ground wire around it. And we said that's not a tank. That's a bomb," explains Caron Rhodes, the homeowner's grandson.
Caron says the bomb was found in a storage shed in the back yard.
It's where he says previous homeowner left lots of items.
Family members started cleaning out the shed to add items to the sale, and that's when they made the explosive discovery.
According to family members, a second pipe bomb was also found, along with materials used to build a pipe bomb and about 600 rounds of ammunition.
Wichita Falls police were quickly called out and quickly evacuated the neighborhood.
Bomb sniffing dogs from Sheppard Air Force Base searched the property and bomb squad members from Denton diffused the danger.
The yard sale resumed Sunday morning.
"We're just going to keep cleaning and see if we find anything else," Rhodes said with a smile.
Wichita Falls police say the elderly homeowner had no idea the pipe bombs and other items were on the property, but Saturday was not the first time an explosive device was discovered there.
According to family members, a live hand grenade was found there Thursday and turned over to police.
The Wichita Falls Fire Marshal's office is continuing its investigation.
